The intention of the Capilano Accounting Association’s (CAA) policies and procedures for tutoring is to protect both tutors and tutees, as well as the CAA, from misunderstandings and academic misconduct. Additionally, this document provides a guideline for a successful tutoring contract. At the beginning of the semester, interested tutors must meet the CAA’s Director of Tutoring to sign the CAA policies and procedures agreement in order to be eligible to tutor. Tutors are required to repeat this process every semester.

  1. A person who is interested in tutoring for any specific course must have received a minimum of B+ in that course and have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 to be eligible to tutor.

  2. Tutors act as a guide and are contracted to clarify course material and concepts. Providing answers (without helping student to find the answer) and completing assignments or homework for a tutee is considered academic misconduct).

  3. Any tutors that are discovered to be completing assignments or homework for students will be disciplined in accordance with the Capilano University’s Cheating and Plagiarism Policy and will not be permitted to continue tutoring through the CAA.

  4. Tutoring Fees must be discussed between tutor and student before the start of a tutoring contract. The CAA recommends payment be remitted immediately after the completion of a tutoring session. The CAA recommends tutoring fees between $20-$30 per hour. The CAA is not responsible for the negotiation or collection of tutoring fees.

  5. Students requesting the help of a tutor must be current Capilano University students in order to receive the tutoring services provided by the CAA.

  6. The tutors and students must each sign-up through the CAA website and be introduced to each other through the CAA in order to be protected under the CAA Tutoring  Policy

  7. Tutoring should be one-on-one and group tutoring is not suggested unless arrangements are made between tutor and students in advance. Amendments to tutoring fees should also be discussed in advance.

  8. Service Satisfaction

    • Students who are not satisfied with the tutoring services provided by specific tutor, should contact the CAA Director of Tutoring.

    • Tutors who are not satisfied with the conduct of a student in regards to a tutoring contract should contact the CAA Director of Tutoring.

  9. Record of Complaint

    • Any tutor who receives more than three complaints of dissatisfaction will not be paired with another student and will be discontinued from the tutoring program.

    • Any student who receives more than three complaints of dissatisfaction will not be paired with tutors and will be discontinued from receiving the services of the CAA tutoring program.

  10. Any tutor or student found to be in contradiction to the CAA Tutoring Policy will be disallowed from continuing with the CAA tutoring program
